Market Research Essentials for Child Nutrition Professionals

  • Suggested Audience: Directors, Supervisors, State/Local Office Staff
  • Suitable for a pre-conference seminar or other gathering of regional/statewide program supervisors and administrators
  • Session Length: Flexible -- up to 4 hours of teaching time (not including breaks) as a full- or partial-day seminar

Session Description:

Without effective research, marketing for child nutrition programs can be little more than guesswork.  This practical, easy-to-understand session uses examples from research projects we've conducted among students, parents, teachers, and administrators to teach child nutrition professionals, in detail, how to conduct their own market research among their many audiences.  Learn how to turn the knowledge derived from market research among your customers into concrete steps to increase sales, improve customer satisfaction, and strengthen your program.  This intensive workshop was rated “excellent” by 80% of participants at ANC in Indianapolis.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the market research process and why it is important for school food service programs, and will look at a range of useful market research tools and techniques that they can immediately put to use in their own programs.

Participants will study survey results, focus group tapes, and marketing action plans from existing research projects, to see market research in action and understand how we get from research to results.

Participants will review lots of qualitative and quantitative market research tools, including surveys and focus group moderator’s guides, from actual child nutrition research projects, and receive these tools and many more on a CD-ROM and DVD so that they can easily tailor the tools to their own market research projects.
